The romance side of the story blossomed in a natural, unforced way, and the chemistry was palpable. Probably my only real complaint is the title: Christopher was no rake, so why call it the rake's inherited courtesan?
A Regency Courtesan's Pride
What was wrong with simply "The Inherited Courtesan"? Garth was a rake, but Christopher, while no virgin, was far too sensible and level-headed to get into wild ways. It was a bit misleading. The only other thing was at times, especially in the first third-ish, I felt a bit distanced from the story and characters, which seemed to move a tad too slowly. It's a small thing though. Skimmed a lot. The MCs were pretty boring why couldn't she have been a real courtesan, not the usual virgin heroine? And Christopher is not a rake -- he's the straightlaced dutiful son , so their standard misunderstanding due to lack of honest conversation was annoying. Overall, 2. View all 7 comments. It seems the old man left him his "ward" Sylvia. What kind of man has his mistress set up as his ward.
He can't wait to see the last of her. However, there is something rather vulnerable about her and he can't quite leave her in the dust like he thought he would. Sylvia on the other hand can't believe her friend and protector has put her in such a dreadful situation. It was fun reading how Christopher Everndon is not upset at the death of his Uncle until he learns of his inheritance. It was fun reading how this couple found the answers to their many questions and untangled themselves from the mess they are in.
Nov 20, Roub rated it really liked it. The villain was a tremendously nasty man, whose nastiness knew no bounds.

I admired Sylvia for wanting to sacrificing her love for Christopher's own good because she knew he had no future wid a courtesan's daughter! Ma vaff Lasciamo perdere, un romance storico insipidino.

The Rake's Inherited Courtesan Mills & Boon Historical Romance
I usually enjoy all of this author's books and this was no exception. However the H wasn't a rake and the heroine wasn't actually a courtesan.
But I assume this was the publishers choice , not the author's. A bit too slowly paced and an excess of body lanuage descriptions. I always find this irritating as if the story is written as a screenplay. Charming story though with a sweet HEA.
Jun 08, T rated it it was ok Shelves: audio , romance-historical. Audio in Swedish, not impressed. Mar 31, Mnms rated it liked it. I usually love Elizabeth Beacons stories, but I think in this case she must've had an off day. Oct 27, Skye rated it liked it. Ok story line and I always love a strong masculine lead that is gentle or in some cases in this book so overwhelmed by feelings even if its lust that he acts like a teenager and does and says the wrong stuff.
